When we first chatted with Kathryn, she explained her ideal wedding day to us, held on a beautiful piece of private property in one of their favorite little towns (and the one they call home)— Lander, Wyoming. Kathryn + Jake had the vision to bring 200+ of their closest friends and family to this remote spot in Wyoming so they could share in the fun, funky small town vibe of Lander. (if you’ve never been….go visit. It’s awesome). They wanted to celebrate their first day of married life together over great food and drink and a seriously great dance party surrounded by the people they love most.
Given the beautiful and somewhat remote location (think lack of cell service, no power or water access, etc), this wedding was going to take a team of amazing vendors and friends pulled from all over the state and beyond. Luckily, Kathryn + Jake had ‘em! With the help of Wyoming Tent & Event Supply, Bistro Catering, Dandelion Farms, and an army of K+J’s more-than-willing crew, this stunning private ranch was transformed into the most perfect wedding venue.
We were amazed at the sheer awesomeness of Kathryn + Jake’s friend group. Throughout the wedding weekend, they would show up lending a hand with the array of tasks presented to them.— lining a 1/2 mile stretch of dirt road with luminarias, setting up 200 chairs in the middle of a field, or showing up in full force to surprise Kathryn + Jake with one of the best flash mobs we’ve ever seen.
Wyoming’s weather can be just as temperamental as Colorado’s weather; the Fall day started off sunny and warm. By the start of ceremony, Wyoming brought a little wind to the party but the weather held out while Kathryn + Jake exchanged their vows. As the rain started to fall, guests cozied into the tent and were greeted with margaritas and appetizers to warm them right back up. As cocktail hour continued, the sun reappeared and a huge rainbow filled the Wyoming sky. Kiddos ran around in the grass playing while the adults mingled and chatted over drinks and stories of recent adventures.
We loved the natural design elements that Kathryn + Jake incorporated into their day as well. The tent was filled with long rows of inviting wooden tables. The handmade place cards were individually tied bunches of herbs which led guests to their seats for dinner. The fabulous Theresa of Dandelion Farm created a beautiful and flowing design of greenery down the middle of each table. Candlelight filled the tent as the sun went down and guests enjoyed a delicious family style meal by Bistro Catering. Kathryn’s friend Meaghan, a trained pastry chef, created the most beautiful display of handmade cakes for dessert.
The dance party force was strong with this crew and we quickly understood why. Kathryn + Jake’s longtime friends had secretly planned a flash mob and taught all 200 guests the moves over the course of the last year. K+J were smiling from ear to ear by the end of it (along with us and everyone else in the room).
They say it takes a village and Kathryn + Jake have that village. We were constantly amazed by the dedication and commitment of their circle of friends and family. If the people you surround yourself with are a reflection of who you are, it proves that Kathryn + Jake are some pretty special people. And we couldn’t agree more with that. Cheers to you two! We adored working with you and watching you promise each other forever! You can bet we’ll be coming back to visit you in Lander. Until the next happy hour together, cheers guys! Xo.
